Overview of country activity
Kenya published its National Action Plan on prevention and containment of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in 2017.
The Fleming Fund has supported Kenya on the development of its National Action Plan through the grants to FAO and WHO.
The Fleming Fund has supported Kenya through its grant to FAO for a review of its legislation relevant to AMR and a baseline review of antimicrobial use in agriculture, including data on the veterinary medicines supply chain. Through this grant, support has also been provided for communication activities to raise awareness and understanding of AMR in the livestock and veterinary sectors.
Kenya has also used the ATLASS tool to assess and develop its veterinary laboratories which will provide invaluable information to support wider investments in the development of laboratory capacity in Kenya.
The Fleming Fund has worked with the Government of Kenya to develop a Request For Proposals (RFP) for a grant that can support the implementation of key priorities from the countries National Action Plan.
The aim is to support Kenya’s action to strengthen the One Health governance structures and surveillance systems in animal and human health sectors.
The Request for Proposals for the Kenya Country Grant is now open.
