Overview of country activity
The Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) is in the process of finalising its National Action Plan on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that was jointly developed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. This is being supported by the Fleming Fund through its Global Grants to WHO and FAO.
The Fleming Fund has also been supporting Lao PDR on development of an AMR surveillance plan and a review of its legislation relevant to AMR, through the Global Grant to FAO. Lao PDR has used the ATLASS tool to assess and develop its veterinary laboratories as a baseline for looking at capability gaps and needs for development in the near future.
The Fleming Fund has worked with the Lao PDR AMR Surveillance and Control Committee to develop a Request For Proposals to strengthen AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU) surveillance system and the monitoring of AMU in human and animal health. The Request For Proposals was issued in May 2018.
