Overview of country activity

The Government of Uganda has put in place a National Strategy for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and an AMR Surveillance Plan (2017-2022), following a situational analysis on AMR published by the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) in 2015.

Uganda has finalised its AMR National Action Plan, this will be available shortly on the WHO library. The Fleming Fund was able to support the development process through our Global Grant to the WHO.

Uganda has also published a One Health Strategic Action Plan, which includes work to address AMR.

Global Grants

The Fleming Fund supported a Professional Veterinary Services national bridging workshop that the OIE ran in 2017.

Country Grants

The Fleming Fund has worked closely with the Government of Uganda to identify areas of the National Action Plan that can be supported through a Fleming Fund Country Grant. In partnership with the government we have developed a Request For Proposals (RFP) to support the national human and animal reference laboratories and selected AMR surveillance sites. The RFP was issued in January 2018 and a grant will be active shortly.
